Taking on the same responsibilities as a management trainee, interns will get hands-on experience from the very first day. That doesn’t mean becoming an expert on coffee making, instead you’ll be learning about sales, marketing, customer service, business management and operations. You will have the chance to showcase your talents and really come alive. If you impress us, then there’s a good chance you could become a permanent fixture with us once you graduate.
We look for students from any degree discipline and from any year. We are much more focused on competencies and we are looking for students who are interested in learning about business and people.
We have a range of internship opportunities available. So whether you want to join us for a placement year, during your summer break or even part-time whilst you continue studies, we have an option to suit you.

The Co-operative Group is not just a food retailer but also a travel provider, a funeral director, a pharmacist, a legal services provider, and much more. But the real difference lies not just in what we do. It’s what we are - a co-operative, and the world’s largest consumer co-operative at that. Unlike a plc, we do not just exist to make profit. Everything we do is for the benefit of our customers and the community as a whole. We are driven by our social goals, and our co-operative values give us a positive advantage.
We have been voted the world’s most trusted brand and our ethics are the foundation of our business. But that doesn’t mean we are any less ambitious - we still offer the depth and breadth of challenge you’d expect from a commercially focused business.
As part of this, we are offering 12-month placements for enthusiastic, motivated undergraduates or graduates. These placements are in various departments within our businesses (for 2009 it will be Energy and Environment, Brand Marketing, Food Retail Location Analysis and Employee Engagement), but they all offer the chance to do challenging work that really matters to the business, in a supportive environment where you are encouraged to learn as much as possible. The placements start in Summer 2009 and we are currently offering 4 as a pilot scheme. Our placements are open to students from any degree discipline, and also to graduates. All placements are based at our head offices in central Manchester.
